“I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel
As I sit here trying to conjure up the words to talk about Sam and “man” Sam’s wedding day I can’t help but think of this verse from Ezekiel and how fitting it is within the frame of their wedding day. More on that later.
It was a rainy but beautifully still Saturday morning as I pulled into the Lilydale in Chippewa Falls, WI. I walked up into the bridal suite to find Sam wearing the biggest grin as her hair was being styled. Immediately she hugs me and asks if I need anything. This is Sam in a nutshell. Her heart is always looking out for the others around her. With sincerity always in her eyes and kindness overflowing from her words she is a diamond in the rough. Her bridesmaids were bursting with humor and laughs. Downstairs in the grooms suite I stumbled upon the same joy. Sam was so giddy to see his bride walk down the aisle he could hardly contain himself. His eyes were literally sparkling with excitement. I kid you not. Sam is just the biggest teddy bear you’ve ever met. While he is strong and a force to be reckoned with it’s so perfectly matched with his softness and loving spirit. Together Sam and “man” Sam are a match made in heaven.
Now, regarding the verse from Ezekiel:
Sam’s family knows the pain of a love lost. While it’s not my place to share the details, I do feel I can share how I see God’s hand at work in such a season. Sometimes God sends treacherous storms. We don’t always understand and we’re not always prepared. We are forced to adjust and acclimate to this new way of life. We find ways to navigate that are different than before and eventually, though the storm has shaped us and changed us, the rain that was reaps a new harvest. It doesn’t mean the storm didn’t happen and while there is debris surrounding us, still there is hope. I feel as though Sam and Sam’s wedding day was a physical representation of that. Their entire wedding day I was a witness to these two and their families choosing to love each other harder, finding both the literal and figurative showers of blessing on this day. The strength, loyalty, and sincere depth of their love was one of the most inspiring and humbling experiences I’ve witnessed. God has got you both, Sam squared. He knew from the moment He made Sam that she’d need her “man” Sam in this life to lean on, cry with, laugh with, and navigate this thing called life with.
As the rain fell all day and we all got wet, it just didn’t matter. We laughed and danced and cried but mostly we loved. Love never fails.
